FGB Affiliate Post

Has someone in your family been affected by leukemia? Have you always wondered what lymphoma really is? Fandom4LLS has formed to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! For a minimum $5 donation, you can receive a compilation of stories by Twific authors. Also, one of the fandom's very own, ZiggyND, is running a half marathon for the cause. If you are one of the first fifty to donate and email us your receipt and information, she will put a memorial or honorary name on her jersey for the person in your life affected by one of these horrible blood cancers. The event is running from now until Sept 15th for author submissions and September 30th for donations.

For more information or to sign up as a contributing author, please visit our website
http://fandom4lls.blogspot.com. You can also find us on Twitter @Fandom4LLS or email us at fandom4lls@gmail.com. We hope to make this charitable event a huge success, so please spread the word!

Final words on FGB: Eclipse

I think we can all say that FGB:Eclipse was a gigantic success. Every single person in the fandom that supported, auctioned, donated, bid, tweeted, etc. should be proud of what we as a community accomplished.

As of today, July 14th, the total donated to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is $140,129. That means in under 9 months the fandom has donated a half million dollars to fund childhood cancer research.

That is truly and amazing feat.

We wanted to thank every single person that had helped make FGB such a success but it would be nearly impossible to list them all. It was a group effort, a true fandom wide event.

There will be other FGB events coming up. Most will not be for monetary donations but other community minded activities. Blood drives, book, clothing and food donations etc. Register for updates, or keep an eye on our twitter @fandomgivesback

Company Matching

We received many questions about company matched donations. While ALSF does have information regarding it, please speak with your Human Resources department to find out if your company does in fact support matching donations.

What FGB means to Nina

I am a mom. I am a fan.

Unfortunately, you hear stories from certain media outlets that mock Twilight fans. Calling us, not-so-nice names and lumping everyone into one uber fanatical category. It is unfair and in my opinion, not an accurate representation of the fandom.

Sure, there are people that take it to the extreme. But, it's not like Twilight is the only franchise that's caused such passionate feelings to be stirred within the fanbase. Hell, it's why it's a fanbase!

LoTR, Star Wars, D&D, WoW, Star Trek, Bradley Cooper fan groups.  Okay that's not real... is it? Half the XBOX man-games have cult followings *coughCallofDuty&HALOcough* with huge forums and meet ups and they're just as passionate!

The Fandom Gives Back is something that we started to raise money for charity. Plain and simple.

What has happened, is that it's morphed into this juggernaut. It's managed to educate some of those in the media that while yes, there are fans that take things a bit above the norm in how they express their love of The Saga. But that there are also those that channel their passion towards helping those in need.

As a fandom you've accomplished something that no amount of negative media can take away.

Focus on that.

You've dedicated your time, your efforts, your hard earned money, your talents and your love towards something like Twilight to help those who can't do this for themselves. Children.

Nobody should suffer the loss of a child. Nobody.

As if losing a child wasn't bad enough, for a family to see them suffering at the hands of a disease that has no cure can only be described as excruciating. I thank God that I don't know what it's like. But, I have seen it tear apart families and it's unlike anything I could ever accurately describe.

You don't need to be a parent to grasp how hard that must be, only a human being.

What our fandom is doing this week is hopefully raising money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Little Alex Scott -- even at four years old -- had the passion to want to help others.

  • The money raised will fund research.

  • The money raised will help those that are in already in need and fighting every single hour of the day.
  • The money raised will help those earn an education towards fighting pediatric cancer.
  • The money raised will help those that have dedicated their lives towards finding a cure for these despicable diseases that are taking our children away.

Focus on that.

The auctions open tomorrow 6/26 at 11:59PM Eastern for bidding.

The forums are open now where you can register and peruse the threads.

On our forums there is a thread about "How ALSF has touched you" Please share a story. Even if it's just that you bought a cup of lemonade from a stand in your area.

This is the 10th Anniversary of the first Alex stand. Let's show them what this fandom can do.

FGB acquires Twihards4Charity

A few months back, Rob DeFranco, owner of 211me and a well-known supporter of charities, created a global initiative called Twihards4Charity. The goal was simple. To unite the millions of Twilight fans and make a difference by supporting worthy causes.

With the help of nationally recognized businesses, his team commandeered the passionate generosity of Twilight fans to raise money for the relief efforts in Haiti. While T4C’s message is clear and its intentions are noble, Rob unfortunately doesn’t have the time to dedicate to it. We know better than anyone how much time, energy and manpower needs to be devoted to operate a fundraiser of this magnitude.

That's were Fandom Gives Back comes in...

Fandom Gives Back has been given the opportunity to absorb the tremendous amount of work that Rob has accomplished and to take over the T4C enterprise fully.

Our hope is to embrace the existing supporters of T4C and welcome them into the Fandom Gives Back community, while maintaining the vision that they’ve established with T4C.

With this new merged development, we are able to extend FGB’s reach and ultimately, support more charitable organizations that are near to the Twilight Fandom community, including just these few whom we've already contacted.
Please join me in thanking Rob for his unwavering dedication to not only the charities, but to the Twilight fandom as well. Rob is giving FGB a great opportunity and we fully intend to utilize it to its fullest potential.

Thank you,
Nina
